Microsoft Lync enables rich communication and collaboration between all UConn faculty and staff on any PC or Mac with an Internet connection. Lync can be used from any campus, or from off campus from anywhere in the world where Internet access can be had. It is this flexibility and ease of use that has resulted in multiple use cases across different departments, such as replacing weekly in person meetings with Lync conferences, reducing travel between remote campuses, improving communication/collaboration with remotely managed personnel, and offering online “office hours” between faculty and students.
Faculty and Staff
UConn faculty and staff can use the full Microsoft Lync client for web conferencing and instant messaging. Download the version below that is appropriate for your computer.
Download Lync 2013 for Windows.
(Note: Lync 2013 is not compatible with Windows XP. You must be running Windows Vista or higher. If you require Windows XP, please download Lync 2010.)
Students and External
Students and all non-UConn users can use the free web-based Lync Web App client, from Windows or Mac, to access meetings hosted by UConn faculty and staff.
Microsoft does not yet offer a Lync client for Linux; however, Wync is a 3rd-party alternative for most distributions. (Note: Free Wync has a 2 minute limit on each call or screen share.)
